Franciscan Health Michigan City is returning to local churches to teach diabetes education.
The hospital will start its Fan Out Diabetes initiative again in April.
The free, faith-based program consists of diabetes education, prevention and detection workshops that are offered at predominantly minority church congregations in LaPorte County after Sunday services. Parishioners can learn more about the chronic disease, get screened for diabetes and get help enrolling for insurance.
The workshops are free and open to the public. No registration is required.
Fan Out Diabetes coincides with National Minority Health Month in April. It's a nationwide initiative that seeks to address health disparities minority groups suffer through awareness, education, early detection and disease management.
